In the center of the old Skikda place for old carriages, between the streets Mourad Didouche (Main Entrance) and Mekki Ourtilani (stage door), stands a building with a brilliant white, laterally topped with slate blue, imposing by its allure and beauty: the Municipal Theatre. On ancient substructures the Temple of Venus, the tutelary goddess of the Roman Russicade, erected in the middle of the twenty-first century (1854), and an actual theater, during the preparation of the centenary celebrations of the colonization Algeria.

The municipal theater covers an area of 1,000m2 is the work of architect Charles Montaland. Construction work began in 1912 and stopped in the first World War. The construction was restarted in 1926. It was officially inaugurated January 19, 1932.
